General
Information On Our Cowhide Products
We buy most
of our natural shaped
cow hides from the two biggest importers
of
cowhide rugs in the United States. Our other cowhide products
will come from various specialty wholesalers around the country.
It’s
generally accepted knowledge that the best
cow hide rugs in the
world are “chromium tanned”, and that the best “chromium
tanned” cow hides come from Brazil and Argentina, South
America.
We get all
our or hides from these two countries. Rest assured that every
cowhide product we carry is of the highest quality.
Cow
Hides Are Not All Tanned the Same
A properly
tanned
cowhide rug should last for the rest of our lives, never
cracking or shedding in all this time. Unfortunately, many
people do not know the difference between the various tanning
processes that
cowhides
go through, and simply assume that all
cow hide rugs are the same… they mistakenly think that a cowhide
rug is a cow hide rug. Nothing could be further from the truth!
As
a result, people too often end up purchasing a low priced
cow
hide rug that cracks or sheds in just a few short years. Our
cow
hide rugs will never do that!
Our
Cowhide Rugs Are All Handpicked
Our main
importer goes down to South America every 4-6 weeks and hand
picks each one of our
cowhide rugs. He chooses each cow hide
based on quality, size and color. This might not sound important
but we know of no other cow hide importer who handpicks each and
every
cowhide rug
that they sell.
Our
Cowhides Come In Many More Colors and Styles
Our importer
has told us that we are by far his pickiest customer. This is
aggravating for him but good for our customer’s as it makes
available
cowhides of certain colors and styles that are very
difficult to get elsewhere. For example, when ordering a
“brindle”
cow hide rug, most other companies only offer a
light, medium or dark “brindle” cowhide.
The problem with this classification system is that you
could literally get 3-5 different colors when ordering a
“medium brindle”. We on the other hand will give you a
choice of brown, blackish brown and reddish brown “brindle”.
“Laced”
Cowhides or Cow hide rug
Our
“laced” cowhide rugs use plastic “lacing” for the
thread. This “lacing” is visible from the top, giving these
particular cowhide rugs more of an informal look. Even though we
carry several designs, the round “star” is by far and away
the most popular design.
“Stitched”
Custom Cow hide Rugs, Calfskin Rugs and Goatskin Rugs
(Please

We are
unquestionably the Internet’s largest producer of quality,
custom made cowhide, calfskin and goatskin rugs. No designer
piece is too large or too small for us to make, as long as it is
either a square or a rectangle. Even though we can easily make
smaller custom
cow hides and goatskins, most of our custom
orders are for cowhides and goatskins 6x8 ft. in size and
larger. For example, out of the last nine custom rugs we have
made for customers, we didn’t have any pieces less than 6x8 in
size.
Every
one of our custom designer rugs consist of squares, measuring
anywhere from 4 to 16 inches in dimension. Using regular thread,
the “stitched” seams are “invisible” in that they can
only be seen from the back and are not like the “laced” cow
hides explained above. These “invisible stitched” seams give
each custom piece a much richer, sophisticated look.
Cowhide
Pillows
Our
cow hide pillows
come from premium grade Brazilian cow hides.
Measuring approximately 15 inches square, most of our cowhide
pillows are double sided. Each cow hide pillow comes filled or
“stuffed” with a washable, “poly-filled” insert.
