Produce the World’s Finest Cow hides 

It is universally known that the World’s finest quality “hair-on” cow hides come from Brazil and Argentina. Even then, Brazil’s tanning process actually produces a softer cow hide rug than those cow hides coming from Argentina. As a result, when buying a full “hair on"  cow hide rug, a cow hide from Brazil is your best choice.

On the other hand, when buying geometric cowhide rugs made up of smaller cowhide pieces sewn together, the slightly stiffer Argentine tanning process produces a better product. As a result, most of our custom cow hide rugs come from Argentina.

Our Cowhide Rugs are Very Supple

The leather of every one of our cowhide rugs is very supple, unlike cowhides from most other countries that can actually be quite stiff in comparison. Every country manufactures cow hide rugs. However most of these pale in quality, both in longevity and suppleness, as compared to those from Brazil and Argentina.

The Best Quality Cowhides are Chromium Tanned

Chromium tanning has long been known to produce the best tanned cowhide rug. A properly chromium tanned cow hide will never shed or crack, even after years of heavy usage, if properly cared for. (Please refer to our cleaning instructions below.)

Chromium tanning is extremely high tech and expensive. As a result, most countries don’t tan their cow hides this way. Even when a chromium tanning process is used, often times the results are unsatisfactory since it is such a difficult process as compared to more conventional forms of tanning.

Rest assured that every one of our cowhides is of the highest quality. Nicer ones simply do not exist.

No Unpleasant Tanning Odors
 So Common In Other Cow Hide Rugs

None of our cow hide rugs have that unpleasant smell from tanning solutions that is so often present in other cowhides. Some manufacturers can make a good quality cowhide rug but the smell of the cowhide can be quite offensive. Rest assured that none of our cowhide rugs will have an unpleasant smell. Instead, each one will have a very pleasant “leather” scent.  

Cowhide Rugs That Will Last A Lifetime

Properly cared for, your cow hide rug or cow hide accessory, will last a life time. This is primarily because of the chromium tanning process our manufacturers use, which, when done correctly, prevents cow hides from cracking or shedding. However, periodic vacuuming is very important to remove the loose dirt from your cow hide rug. Dirt left in a rug can act as a “grinding stone” when constantly being walked on.  

How To Care For Your Cowhide Rug 

Concerning product care, cowhide rugs and all of our other cowhide products for that matter, are very easily cared for. For regular house cleaning, vacuuming is quite safe with all of our cow hide products. Simple soap and water on a sponge will deal with most common spills. For major cleaning, steam cleaning your cow hide rug, pillow or area rug is quite safe, as long as you don’t soak the leather backing. 

As with any rug, spraying or applying a "Scotch Guard" type product will help keep your cow hides clean. However, there are much better products on the market than "Scotch "Guard".  Check with a local carpet cleaner for suggestions.
